Living Well Summer Courses

Message Below from Sarah at Living Well

Please see below a list of our Living Well courses running after Easter.

The offer of free courses will come to an end on 31st July 2017, so if you or someone you know would like to access a free course, please do get in touch before it's too late.

We have some great new titles starting in the summer term including:

Caring for Carers - a course looking at building confidence, a reminder to look after themselves and strategies to cope with life is stressful;

Flower Arranging for Fun, The Power of Colour, and Wire Sculptureto name a few!

Please help us to promote the courses by sharing it with service users, friends and family. To find out more or to book an appointment, please contact our Customer Service Team on 01202 262300; visit our webpage or our new Facebook page

If you have a group of 8 or more who would like the same subject, please contact me as we may be able to set up a bespoke onsite course.

Townsend Spring Clean

Despite the wind and rain the un-Spring-like weather didn't stop the Clean-Up going ahead in Townsend.

During the morning residents were able to get rid of unwanted bulky goods, 3 large skips were filled in just a few hours! As the weather eased more residents came out of their homes to help with lifting and carrying. Other residents carried out a litter pick of the local area; 20 black sacks were filled with litter!

The Townsend Youth Centre also took part in the Spring Clean by litter picking and cleaning-up the skate park and play area. Jewell Academy also took some pupils out to carry out a litter pick of the roads by their school. Thanks to Littledown Leisure Centre who rewarded these children with a complimentary swim voucher.

Thanks also go to Townsend Community Association for the use of the Centre and for making food and drinks. As always, the support of Bournemouth Borough Council was much appreciated. Special thanks also to Lansdowne Church and all Townsend residents who came together to work as a team to pull off another successful clean-up event!

The clean-up was possible thanks to the action group, The Townsend Together Team and funding from the charity The Townsend Community Association, Bournemouth Borough Council Housing Department and Local Improvement Funding.

National Citizens Awards

Message from Dom Weir - We are currently looking for Social Action Projects for our Summer 2017 course. A Social Action Project is an opportunity for the young people on NCS to give back to their community.

The project can be anything from gardening, redecorating, designing murals, fundraising events etc.

Some examples of what we did last Summer included Abbeyfield Care Homes in Westbourne and Ferndown, their task was to sort the garden area out for both location's and hold an event for the residents, they were very successful and both residents and our young people were very pleased with the end result. Other teams went to St Clements School and Bethany School in Boscombe, where they painted the exterior wall in the school colours and designed a mural for them as well as revitalising the outdoor spaces.

Is there any projects you could think of that could be completed by our young people? They would fundraise to provide all the resources required to complete the project and any additional money would be donated to the cause. The dates they will be required to volunteer are the 24th July - 28th July 2017 or 28th August - 1st September 2017. They have 1 week to complete their 30 hours of volunteering.

Please find attached our 2016 review to give you a flavour of what NCS is all about if you are unaware of this excellent Programme.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Dom on 01202 410500 / 07966 808836
