Access Dorset

Access Dorset Poster

Access Dorset is a charitable, user led organisation.

Who we support:

Disabled people, people with long term health conditions, older people and carers.

We provide a number of services which aim to promote inclusion by breaking down barriers. More information of these services can be found on our website:

These services include:
- Free information and advice - either by phone, email, text (glide/facetime to be established). This advice service covers a number of topics which is manned by a knowledgeable team.
- Face to face advice surgeries - provides more intensive support on a one to one basis during two days per week. (This is currently only available in Bournemouth but the aim is to raise funds to provide a further service more locally to Weymouth).
- Crisis Advocacy Service - available to people living in Dorset, Weymouth, Bournemouth and Poole.

The Crisis Advocacy Service is funded by the lottery and is being launched rolled out in Weymouth and areas of Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole.

What we offer:

One to one advocacy support in times of crisis - This service is being offered to people who are struggling to deal with multiple, complex issues which are having a significant impact on their lives. This can include areas such as:- home, work, money, health, wellbeing, relationships etc. Each individual will be allocated a caseworker who will provide support tailored to the their needs. Support can be intensive initially and aims to be holistic, person centred and collaborative with other agencies as appropriate.

Short term aim:

To identify why they are in crisis and support them to deal with the areas requiring immediate attention. Once this is achieved we will work with them to improve their circumstances with a more holistic approach, with the aim of avoiding further future crisis. We will be using actions plans which will be developed with the person, both identifying the areas for change and mapping progress.

Long term aim:

To support people to gain control over their lives, to get out of crisis, get back on track and stay on track by supporting them to build their own resilience and plan for their own future.

For further information on the services listed above or to make a referral please contact the Access Dorset Team on 01202 771336.

The next 3Ts meeting will be taking place on
Thursday 20th October 2016 // 2.00pm - 3.00pm @ Townsend Community Centre.

Townsend Residents Meeting

The 3Ts are aware that residents do have a number of local concerns. The best way for these to be addressed is through a residents meeting where the right organisations can be invited to update and answer residents questions. This will be a public meeting and all residents will be urged to come along. A date and confirmation of guest speakers will be confirmed shortly; flyers will also be posted through local letterboxes.

Environmental Walk Around

From hearing individuals comments and issues at the last 3Ts meeting, it seems many are environmental. To help resolve these issues we are suggesting a monthly 'Environmental Walk Around' in Townsend. If you would like to be part of this group please come along, all welcome. The first Environmental Walk Around will take place on Thursday 13 October, 11am-12pm, meeting outside Townsend Community Centre.

If you have a comment or any further suggestions please get in contact.
