A Future For Wildlife - includes Jewell Academy

Amazing news! Tesco have recently awarded the Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre with £1000 towards running a project engaging with children from deprived areas and homeless shelter residents on our nature reserves.

This inspirational project will use wildlife and outdoor activities to engage children in the importance of wildlife and how interacting with nature and the outdoors can be rewarding, exciting and healthy. We will be using survey techniques to show them birds, mammals, moths, butterflies, seashore life and pond creatures. We will be showing them the differences between some fascinating UK species of wildlife and how they live and also what we can do to help them. Other activities will all be about fun and enjoying outdoor play without the need for a mobile phone, tablet or TV - this will include den building and team games.

Another important aspect of this project will be guiding residents from a homeless shelter through survey techniques, working alongside Countryside Rangers to study changes within populations of vulnerable wildlife and habitats such as heathland, we aim to provide them with transferable skills to help with future employment, for example surveying, working with statistics, team work and presentations.

We need your help to increase this funding from £1,000 to £5,000 to run this project during the summer of 2017, please vote for us in your local Tesco store and help spread the word!

Children Centre - Taster Sessions

My name is Bex Sinclair and I am the Teenage Parent lead from Barnardo's children's centres.

I will be running a set of 4 taster sessions called me and my child.

The idea of the sessions is to give families a taster of what their local children's centre can offer and the outcome will hopefully be that these families will then go on to access either our groups / courses or family support should they wish too.

They will run from 12/01/17 to 2/2/17

Each session is an hour long and they will all be held at Winton Children's Centre from 11am to 12

Parents can self-refer by ringing any of our centres or professionals can refer on their behalf.

This is open to all teenage parents under 20 however parents within our postcoded areas will have priority.
